  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Four-hundred four outpatients with psychosis of Seiwakai Nishikawa Hospital in Hamada, Shimane Pref., were followed up for one year in terms of both social adjustment levels and regularity of consultation and/ or prescription using the computer system. We found some results as follows :

 (1) Schizophrenics were significantly less adaptive than manic-depressive psychotics. Among the schizophrenics, the hebephrenic type patients showed the significant lowest level of social adjustment as compared to the catatonic, paranoid or undifferentiated patients. (2) Both schizophrenics and manic-depressive psychotics were irregular with respect to the regularity of consultation and/or prescription in which latterthe was markedly less regular than the former. (3) The regularity of consultation and/or prescription was positively correlated with the social adjustment levels in outpatients with psychosis. (4) The hospitalization rate was about 10% in either schizophrenics or manic-depressive psychotics. As regularity of consultation and/or prescription was decreased, the hospitalization rate was increased.

These results suggested that the social adjustment levels for outpatients with psychosis were different among the diseases or schizophrenic subtypes in a manner that was correlated with the regularity of consultation and/or prescription. Finally, it was discussed how the application of the computer system for the follow-up study in outpatients with psychosis would contribute to the prevention of the relapse of psychosis.
