Herein, we described the clinicopathological characteristics of esophageal tumors including basaloid squamous carcinoma, carcinosarcoma, adenosquamous carcinoma, neuroendocrine carcinoma, and mucoepidermoid carcinoma, except for squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. These tumors are relatively rare, accounting for <10% of all esophageal tumors. These tumors show histopathological diversity, and they frequently coexist with squamous cell carcinoma or adenocarcinoma. Therefore, biopsy may not lead to a final diagnosis, and it is sometimes difficult to make a correct diagnosis before treatment. However, given the different characteristics of each tumor, it is important to diagnose these carefully based on resected specimens to administer appropriate treatment.
