Impaired Self-awareness occurs in 70% of stroke patients and is known to affect occupational therapy. We conducted a scoping review of occupational therapy for stroke patients with impaired Self-awareness to synthesize current research findings and identify knowledge gaps. The review included 17 Japanese articles and 13 English articles. Both Japanese and English articles inadequately addressed the relationships between Self-awareness and environmental or personal factors and psychological aspects. The change of Self-awareness issues over time also remains unclear. In Japan, evaluations of Self-awareness are not widely used, and research is in its infancy. Longitudinal studies and the use of appropriate assessments are needed in the field of occupational therapy in Japan.
