Objective: This study aimed to clarify the association between compassion fatigue and resilience in emergency nurses who deal with patients' families in the first treatment room of an emergency and critical center.

Methods: The ER nurses' demographics of subjects, and scores of the Japanese version of the Professional Quality of Life Scale for Nurses(ProQOL-JN), and scores of the Resilience Scale for Nurses were collected.

 Results: Data from a total of 186 nurses were analyzed(valid response rate: 87.7%). There was no significant association between resilience and compassion fatigue(p = .162, OR = .499(95%CI = [.189, 1.322])). However, resilience was significantly associated with compassion satisfaction(p < .001, OR = 7.368(95%CI = [2.587, 20.983])).

Conclusion: Resilience was closely associated with compassion satisfaction, suggesting that compassion satisfaction, a positive perception of one's own nursing care, influenced the resilience of emergency nurses.
