結節性痒疹（prurigo nodularis；PN）の発生機序の詳細は未解明であるが，近年，その一端が明らかになりつつあり，治療法の進歩がみられるようになってきた． 病理組織学的には表皮，真皮の変化とともに，肥満細胞，リンパ球や好酸球などの増加がみられる（後詳述）．
