This paper introduces the roles and responsibilities of healthcare professionals stipulated in the Basic Act on Measures Against Alcohol-Related Health Harm enacted in 2014. The paper is based on the latest findings, focusing on nurses' knowledge of typical alcohol-related physical diseases; such knowledge is required particularly of nurses. Specifically, this paper provides a detailed explanation of the association of drinking behavior with the onset, prognosis, and treatment of physical diseases. It sheds light on the areas of expertise required of nurses for proper intervention, such as early detection and prevention of negative health effects, prevention of recurrence, and introduction to special treatment.
