We investigated the features of color painting of patients with schizophrenia. The presents study included 57 patients with schizophrenia (32 outpatients and 25 inpatients) and 30 controls. The patients were shown twelve colorless line-drawn pictures of objects: a statue, post, face, banana, clover, tangerine, eggplant, snow man, piano, peach, chestnut and the Earth. The subjects were required to say the names of the objects and their corresponding colors. More than 80% of the schizophrenic subjects could identify two objects and their corresponding colors (banana and tangerine), while the control group could identify 12. In patients with schizophrenia, the number of subjects who could identify the clover and piano was less than the control. Both the experimental group and the control group identified eight items: a statue, post, face, eggplant, snowman, peach, chestnut, and the Earth, but the groups differed in their color identification.

The results suggest that the feature of color identification of patients with schizophrenia tends be different from that of healthy individuals.
