Analysis of circle copying was performed on 39 patients with neurodegenerative diseases displaying ataxia of the upper limbs. The correlation between the measured value of the copied circle and BI value was analyzed, factors involved with copying were investigated by factor analysis, and the measured copy value influencing the BI value was identified through multiple regression analysis. Regarding the influence on the BI value, the standard deviation of divergence from the circle was specific, and the following multiple regression equation was obtained adopting one element from each of the factors identified by factor analysis: BI value=105.42-299.37 X1+4.99 X2-0.69X3 (X1=“standard deviation of divergence”, X2=“mean speed of drawing”, X3=“standard deviation of plus declination”). The equation was established as a prediction formula with a favorable fit. The results suggest that, in ataxic patients, the BI value is most markedly influenced and reduced by the variation of divergence from the circle, increases as the copying speed rises, and decreases as the angle variation increases.
