  • Look Inside

An exploratory-descriptive design was used to describe mothers' experiences with Kangaroo care (skin to skin) for pre-term infants. Ten mothers were interviewed using a semistructured interview guide. Data was analyzed by a comparative analysis method.

There were two categories: 《The self as a mother》 and 《Relationship with the infant》.

《The self as a mother》 consisted of 4 subcategories, 1) Thinking of term childbirth, 2) Sadness of pre-term childbirth, 3) Reconciliation with the infant, 4) The self as a motherneeded by my infant. 《Relationship with the infant》 consisted of 2 sub-categories, 1) Attachment to the infant and 2) Respect of the infant.

These two categories were interrelated and formed a category 《Healing of experience of pre-term childbirth》.

The results indicated that the mothers' experiences with Kangaroo care is that healing occurred when the mother had a relationship with their infants and she was self-confident as a mother.
