安全でかつ効果の高いワクチンの開発や使用に当たっては，その作用機序の理解が不可欠である．ワクチンの目的は効率よく生体に獲得免疫を誘導することにあるが，近年，獲得免疫の誘導には自然免疫の活性化が重要であることが明らかとなってきた．さらに，水酸化アルミニウム(Alum)のようなこれまで経験的に用いられてきたアジュバントも生体の自然免疫受容体を活性化する事実が報告され，ワクチンやアジュバントの作用機序を分子レベルで詳細に理解することが可能になりつつある．

It is important to understand the mechanisms of vaccine for developing more effective and safer vaccine.　Recent advances in immunology revealed that innate immune response was essential for establishing effective adaptive immune responses.　Here we described inactivated influenza vaccine immunization system in mice that illustrated the importance of innate immune activation for inducing protective adaptive immune responses, especially in nave host.
