Abstract

Meige syndrome is a disorder which was described first and in detail by Henry Meige, a French neurologist in 1910. This syndrome has been popular in the literature after the report by Marsden in 1976.

Clinical characteristics are chiefly the age of onset and the distribution of abnormal involuntary movements. The disease usually starts at the ages of fifty and sixty. An early symptom is usually an increased freqency of blinking (more than 30 times per minute) and this progresses to involuntary contraction or spasm of the orbicularis oculi muscles, that is, blepharospasm.
