Many neuropathological animals, most of which show cerebellar ataxia, have been reported in recent years. Cerebellum offers a unique position in brain physiology, since its functional circuitry is almost well understood clown to the synaptic level. I here introduce the cerebellar mutants such as weaver, staggerer, reeler, nervous and pcd as a model for the cerebellar ataxia.

Weaver mutation is characterized by the degeneration of granule cells in the several postnatal days. The affected animals are first recognized clinically at about 8 to 10 days after birth. The neurological sign is instability of gait.
