転写因子による神経幹細胞の分化制御

Transcription factors that regulate maintenance and differentiation of neural stem cells

　神経発生過程は，①神経幹細胞の増殖，②神経幹細胞からニューロンの分化，③神経幹細胞からグリアの分化という三つの過程に分けることができる。これら三つの過程は，いずれもbHLH因子によって制御される。抑制型bHLH因子は神経幹細胞の維持とグリアの分化を制御し，活性型bHLH因子はニューロンの分化を制御する。抑制型と活性型bHLH因子間の拮抗的作用によって，分化のタイミングや細胞数が決まる。これらの転写因子は，将来，神経再生に応用されることが期待される。

Neural development consists of three major steps: (1) proliferation of neural stem cells, (2) neurogenesis, and (3) gliogenesis. It has been shown that all these steps are regulated by basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) factors. Re-pressor-type bHLH factors regulate proliferation of neural stem cells and gliogenesis while activator-type bHLH factors promote neurogenesis. Antagonistic regulation between these repressor-and activator-type bHLH factors determines the timing of differentiation and the number of each type of cells. These bHLH factors may be useful for regeneration of neural tissues.
