  • Look Inside

Uremic patients under hemodialysis treatment are often affected by restless legs syndrome (RLS), characterised by unpleasant creeping sensations in the lower legs at rest, especially during the night. RLS is often accompanied by PMS. The mechanism of PMS, however, is yet unknown. In this study, we analysed the relationship between the frequency of PMS and sleep stages.

Polysomnographic recordings were performed in 8 hemodialytic patients with RLS (4 males and 4 females, mean age; 54.6). Sleep stages and PMS were scored according to the criteria of Rechtschaffen and Kales (1968) and Coleman (1982) respectively.
