It is often difficult to treat elbow contractures associated with bone deformities because of the anatomical differences in the bone abnormalities of individual patients. We planned surgery to mobilize elbow joints with contractures by using preoperative 3-dimensional full-scale bone modeling to simulate the procedure and evaluate the expected postoperative range of motion (ROM). The patient was a 69-year-old woman with contracture of her left elbow after malunion of the distal humerus. We were able to achieve the same ROM as in the preoperative simulation. We found preoperative 3D simulation to be useful for evaluating bone anatomy in elbows with contractures and for preoperative planning of surgical procedures.
