Background:We reviewed pediatric fractures treated in our tertiary emergency medical facility.

Methods:We retrospectively analyzed data related to 646 patients 15 years of age and under who were treated for fractures in our hospital between 2008 and 2012.

Results:The ratio of upper extremity fractures to lower extremity fractures was 4.6:1. The most frequent diagnosis in the 0−6 year age group was supracondylar humerus fracture due a fall. Many patients in the 7−15 year age group were diagnosed with sports-related distal radius fractures and hand fractures.

Conclusions:Most pediatric fractures occurred in the upper extremity and were caused by low-energy trauma. Children and their guardians need to be educated about safety measures in regard to falls and sports in order to reduce injuries.
