  • Look Inside

We examined using a questionare method, the condi-tions and triggers of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in 132 patients (male/female: 101/31, age: 64.2 ±7.1 years old. The most frequent onset time was between 10AM and 0 PM. In 25% to 32% of patients the onset was during sleep. The incidence of MAI during physical activity was higher in males below 65 years old (52%) than in males over 65 years old (29%). 52% of males below 65 years old had AMI at home. However the incidence of AMI at home was much higher in males over 65 years old (73%) and in females (77%). Among the 132 patients studied, sudden onset, which means the lack of preexisting symptoms, occurred in 55% of males below 65 years old, 68% of males over 65 years old, and 87% of females. The triggers of AMI were not clear. However stress in work, smoking, and heavy drinking were noted in males below 65 years old. Males over 65 yeras old lacked outstanding triggers except smoking. Triggers in females were overwork and stress in family life, especially the illness of a spouse.
