Seven years have passed since our first therapeutic experience of strip biopsy for early gastric cancer. We present here the results of follow-up studies on patients with early gastric cancer treated by strip biopsy. Subjects were those patients followed-up for five years or longer after complete resection by strip biopsy (34cases) or after an additional endoscopic therapy after partial resection by strip biopsy (10cases).

Thirty-seven of those 44patients are currently alive.

Four died of malignancies of other organs and 3 others dropped out from the follow-up because of change of address. Thus, endoscopic follow-up was completed for 33patients. No residual lesion was demonstrated.

In conclusion, strip biopsy is considered to be an effective treatment, when applied appropriately, for early gastric cancer.
