Abstract

Aim: This study aimed to conduct a pilot test of peel testing to investigate peel speed using multiple medical tapes on the human skin.

Methods: The four target samples used in this study were GENTLEFIXTM 3M, Porous TapeTM KYOWA, TransporeTM White Surgical Tape 3M, and Surgical TapeTM KYOWA. A sample 12 or 12.5 mm in width and 130mm in length was applied to the abdomen of the research participants for at least 300 min. Three types of peeling speed conditions were used, 5, 15, and 30 mm/s; one measurement was taken for each peeling speed.

Results: The study included 10: 2 male and 8 female participants, all of which aged 19 years. Three of the four medical tapes that were subjected to peel tests in this study showed minimum values at a peel speed of 5mm/s. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to assess the peel force at different peel speeds of 5, 15, and 30 mm/s. The results showed no significant difference in the peel force at different peel speeds.

Conclusions: This report summarizes the results of our investigation of peeling techniques that could be more suitable for human skin. Peeling medical tape off from human abdominal skin at different speeds, there was no significant difference in peel force between the speeds.
