Point

・もやもや病に対する厚生省（現厚生労働省）研究は1974年に脳脊髄血管異常調査研究班として開始され，1977年からもやもや病単独の研究班として現在まで継続されてきた．

・研究班50年の軌跡として，診断基準やガイドラインの策定に加え，研究班を母体とする多施設共同試験などにより，もやもや病の病態や治療指針が改訂されてきた．

・最近は患者会との連携により，全国統一市民公開講座やピアサポート，医療-教育連携などの患者支援事業が展開されている．

　The Research Committee on Moyamoya Disease（Spontaneous Occlusion of the Circle of Willis） of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan was established in 1977. The committee has developed diagnostic criteria and therapeutic guidelines for moyamoya disease. Several multicenter clinical studies, conducted by the research committee, have clarified pathophysiological features of the disease and provided strong evidence for effective treatments.
