はじめに

　近年，認知症は社会的にも注目されるようになり，アルツハイマー病(Alzheimer's disease；AD)については以前¹⁾より広く理解されるようになってきた。しかし，いまだに認知症とADが同義にとらえられていることも多く，認知症の原因となる疾患には，血管性認知症(vascular dementia；VaD)やレビー小体型認知症(dementia with Lewy bodies；DLB)，ピック病(Pick's disease；PiD)を含めた前頭側頭型認知症(frontotemporal dementia；FTD)，意味性認知症(semantic dementia；SD)などさまざまな種類があることはあまり知られていないと思われる。これらの疾患のうち，VaDは血管病変の種類や部位などによって症状は多様だが，非アルツハイマー型変性性認知症(non-Alzheimer degenerative dementias；NADD)であるDLBやFTD，SDなどは，個人差はあるものの，ADと同様に疾患ごとに共通した特徴的な症状を示す。

　疾患の正しい理解は，認知症の早期発見¹³⁾の他，適切な介護を行うため^4,9)にも必要であると考えられる。しかし，認知症の一般的な知識やイメージに関する従来の報告は，ADか，疾患を特定せず認知症という枠組みで調査したものが多く^10,14,15,17)，NADDに関する調査報告は今のところない。

　本研究では，ADと，ADに次いで出現頻度の高いNADDであるDLB⁴⁾，および，前頭側頭葉変性症(fronto-temporal lobar degeneration；FTLD)の中で出現頻度の高いFTDとSD⁷⁾について，現在の大学生における疾患の知名度や理解度を調査した。

　In several studies, the understanding and views of the general public on dementia or Alzheimer's disease (AD) have been analyzed. However, no study exists on the understanding of degenerative dementia, including dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), or semantic dementia (SD). In this study, the recognition and understanding of degenerative dementia by university students were examined.

　In April 2009, 197 university students were asked to rate on a scale from 1 to 5 whether the symptoms characteristic of AD, DLB, FTD, or SD were actually caused by the respective dementia.

　The results revealed that most students thought that some symptoms of AD could be caused by this dementia, but they did not think that visual hallucinations were caused by DLB and food preference, by FTD. With regard to recognition of the disease, 194 (98.48%) of 197 students knew about AD, whereas only 5 (2.54%) of 197 students knew about DLB；19 (9.64%), FTD；and 6 (3.05%), SD. These results indicate that DLB, FTD, and SD are not well known among the general public.
