　口腔領域における免疫システムは頭頚部のリンパ組織に加えて，口腔粘膜上皮，唾液などが効率的にその機能が維持されている。口腔免疫システムの異常によって，様々な感染症，アレルギー疾患，自己免疫疾患が発症する。その中で，唾液腺などの外分泌腺を標的とする自己免疫疾患であるシェーグレン症候群はドライマウスによる種々の口腔症状を呈する難治性免疫疾患である。その病態は複雑であり，様々なモデルを用いた多角的なアプローチによる発症機序の解明に向けた研究が進められている。

　Oral immune system is maintained by various lymphoid tissues in head and neck region and efficient function of oral mucosa and saliva. A variety of oral immune disorders such as infection, allergic disease and autoimmune disease are induced by dysfunction of oral immune system. Sjögren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease that affects exocrine glands, including salivary glands, causing dry mouth symptoms. Because the pathogenesis of Sjögren's syndrome is complex, the study with multiple approaches using many models has been developed to understand the precise mechanism of the disease onset.
