 A new type of preamplifier was designed for the intracellular recording of action potentials by means of the ultramicroelectrode. The new principle is that, by utilizing the "current dividing characteristics" of the pentode, the input signal is applied to the suppressor grid of an ordinary pentode (6 BD 6) and thus the input impedance of the amplifier has been sufficiently increased to meet the high resistance of the microelectrode.
