Towards the affection which had been, heretofore, vaguely known as "Ménière's diease or syndrome" a careful analysis is made of the symptoms that are manifested in this disease such as tinnitus, hard of hearing and vertigo. Particularly with that of hard of hearing from the results of functional tests performed, it might be said that the causative factor underlying this symptom be regarded as being due to labyrinthine changes such as edema, anemia or apoplexy. The method by which the differential diagnosis of these three latter conditions with the importance of the role of recruitment and auditory threshold fatigue tests contributing to the process is discussed.

The authors emphasize that. in view of this investigation, the term "Ménière's disease" should be interchanged to "labyrinthine hydrops" which is more desciptive of the clinical conditions found.
