肩関節(亜)脱臼の大学柔道選手における既往は8.9％(50/562例)と稀な外傷ではない．競技柔道の反復性肩関節(亜)脱臼で手術になる場合，選手背景を考慮した手術時期の決定が重要である．直視下手術または鏡視下手術でも再脱臼率は5％程度であり，手術法による差異はない．術後競技復帰プログラムは術後6カ月以降での目標とする試合を決定し，十分な筋力回復と得意技の反復練習により競技復帰させる．しかし戦術的に重要な釣り手側の術後外旋制限は，得意技の変更などを強いられることが多く，競技レベルを下げる原因になり注意を要する．
