  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Various causes resulting in aortic regurgitation, except for aortic regurgitation with ventricular septal defect, were studied and 2.5% of 500 patients, cardiac catheterization performed during last five years, revealed aortic regurgitation.

Aortic regurgitation found in association with malformations of the aortic pathway was common.

Kawasaki disease is an acute febrile illness with multisystem involvement and extensive cardiac involvement may cause sudden death due to myocardial infarction from occlusive coronary artery disease, rupture of a coronary aneurysm or conduction abnormalities. Mitral regurgitation following Kawasaki disease is now well established as coronary arterial disease, but aortic regurgitation not yet. Recently an increase number of cases of aortic regurgitation in association with Kawasaki disease have been reported. From this point of view, importance of Kawasaki disease as a new entity of acquired heart disease was discussed.
