Aim: This study examined the association between on-the-job training and conducting solo home visits or work engagement(WE) six months later among novice home-visiting nurses.
Methods: Web-based questionnaires were distributed to 423 novice home-visiting nurses at baseline and after six months. A binomial logistic regression analysis was conducted on 296 obtained responses, with eight types of on-the-job training as the independent variables, and conducting solo home visits(daytime emergency and 24-hour response) or work engagement at a six-month follow-up as the dependent variables.
Results: Conducting solo home visits to ensure a 24-hour response at the six-month follow-up was associated with participation in study meetings(OR = 4.31, 95% CI = 1.06 - 17.52) and multidisciplinary meetings(OR = 4.48, 95% CI = 1.13-17.72) at baseline. High WE scores at the six-month follow-up were associated with the number of home visits accompanied by senior nurses(OR = 1.01, 95% CI = 1.00-1.01) at baseline.
Conclusion: The results suggested that participation in study and multidisciplinary meetings among novice home-visiting nurses could facilitate conducting solo home visits for a 24-hour response six months later and accompanied by senior nurses slightly enhance their WE six months later.
