Both Aspe-no-kai Ishikawa and Kanazawa Erude-no-kai are societies that intend to provide lifetime services for those with Asperger's syndrome and learning disabilities, respectively. The features of the group activities organized by these two societies and the roles that a staff speech-language-hearing therapist (SLHT) could play in the activities were reported.

In the group activities, the SLHT facilitated communication among children and adolescents with Asperger's syndrome or learning disabilities. They were encouraged by the SLHT to communicate with one another in their own ways, and to fulfill duties which are hardly ever allocated to them when interacting with their peers who do not have AS or learning disabilities. To be a facilitator, the SLHT should be well aware of how these young people interact with their family or peers, and what they are supposed to learn in the future in this respect. The SLHT prepared activities, created conditions appropriate for learning in the group situation and provided the necessary assistance to individuals in order to maximize their chances of learning.
