The cherry dissector may not be able to properly hold the position of the lungs if the tip cotton is wet with blood. I thought that the edges would work well by making the tip a regular polygon, and acquired intellectual property rights. In addition, through industry-university collaboration, with the support of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry issue problem solving project, the small diameter 5 mm size dissector was also approved as a medical device. As a material having a high friction coefficient, a porous resin of high molecular polyethylene was adopted. The tip of the porous resin was adjusted in order to generate sufficient grip force for surgical procedure around soft tissues. By changing the porous amount of the tip and the material kinds of the resin, there are possibilities for various development adapted to the needs of many surgeons. Appropriate acquisition and handling of intellectual property rights was indispensable for medical device development in industry-university collaboration.
