  • Look Inside

Percutaneous transhepatic cholangio drainage (PTCD) is a useful tool for relief of mechanical jaundice caused by malignant tumors and is applied widely in Japan, although grave complications occur not infrequently. Spontaneous removal of drainage tube can cause biliary peritonitis, and urgent treatment is neccessary. A 80-year-old woman had PTCD for relief of jaundice caused by advanced cancer of the gall bladder. The drainage tube was spontaneously removed 18 days after drainage, though she had no symptoms for a few days. However, after 2 days, she developed symptoms and signs of peritonitis.
