手の運動パターンをめぐってはこれまで，主として健常手の動きの分類研究が行われてきた。とくに把握の静止パターンについては，直感的分類，論理的分類，実験的観察に基づく分類などいくつかの分類法が提案されている。映像を用いる実験的観察は，静的な非把握のパターンや物体操作時の動的パターンについてもそれぞれの類型を明らかにした。これらはいずれも記述的な研究であるが，少なくとも把握に関しては数量的表現をめざす研究が始まっている。手の動きのパターンの研究は，たんにヒトの運動だけでなく，個人差の理解や神経疾患の病的特性の理解をも助ける。発生学や発達学の視点も手の動きを理解する上で重要なものである。

This paper reviews the research of movement patterns of human hands. Since Schlesinger (1919), some researchers have tried to classify hand movements, especially prehension. Napier (1956) classified two major prehensile patterns 1) a power grip, in which the palm and whole volar sides of fingers come to contact with an object, and 2) a precision grip, in which distal volar sides of fingers and the thumb make contact. He stressed that the purpose of the action determines the form of the hand.
