Abstract Purpose:To report the incidence and causes of switching to combined preparation of tafluprost and timolol for primary open-angle glaucoma(POAG).

Cases and Method:We surveyed 98 cases of POAG who were switched to combined preparation of tafluprost and timolol during 2016. The series comprised 24 cases of POAG in the narrower sense and 74 cases with normal-tension glaucoma. These cases were evaluated regarding intraocular pressure(IOP), visual field, medication at the time of switching, and causes of switching.

Results:IOP averaged 14.8±3.6 mmHg before switching. Patients were receiving an average of 1.4±0.8 medications. Just before switching, 56 cases were using tafluprost, 12 cases were using tafluprost plus gelled timolol, 5 cases were using fixed combination of travoprost/timolol, and 3 cases were using fixed combination of latanoprost/timolol. Switching of medication was due to insufficient hypotensive effect in 36 cases, further progression of visual field defect in 33 cases, poor adherence to previous medication, and side effects in 11 cases.

Conclusion:Switching to combined preparation of tafluprost and timolol was mainly due to insufficient hypotensive effect, further progression of visual field defect, and poor adherence.
