Abstract Purpose:To report visual performance after implantation of implantable collamer lens for myopia in persons aged 45 years or over.

Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 17 eyes of 10 cases who received implantation of implantable collamer lens for myopia by us. They were aged between 46 and 62 years, average 52.1 years. The refraction averaged −10.29 diopters. Visual acuity at 5m averaged 0.03. One eye received implantation of non-hole and 16 eyes received hole collamer lens.

Results:Far visual acuity with the naked eye averaged 0.88 one month, 1.08 3 months, 1.33 6 months, and 1.07 one year after implantation. Visual acuity at 50 cm and 30 cm with the naked eye averaged 0.83 and 0.44 respectively. Refraction averaged −0.71 diopter 1 month, −0.13 diopter 6 months, and −0.31 diopter one year respectively after surgery. Contrast sensitivity was normal in all the eyes. There was no case who showed exacerbation of cataract or who needed surgery for elevated intraocular pressure. Satisfaction index of patients averaged 3.9 for distance, 4.1 for middle distance, and 2.9 for near respectively. A total of 62% of patients reported no need to use eyeglasses.

Conclusion:Implantation of implantable collamer lens for myopia was safe and effective in persons aged 45 years or over. Subjective satisfaction was lower for near distance.
