Abstract Purpose:To present a review of patients who received cataract surgery with implantation of multifocal intraocular lens(IOP)in the past 28 months.

Cases and Method:This study was made on 548 eyes of 353 cases who received cataract surgery with implantation of multifocal intraocular lens(IOP)during 28 months through December 2016. The medical expenses were not covered by public insurance in 264 eyes of 163 cases, and were covered as advanced medical care in 284 eyes of 190 cases. The findings were compared with 5,127 eyes of 3,719 cases who received implantation of conventional monofocal IOL during 2016.

Results:There was a gradual increase in the number of cases who received implantation of multifocal IOL since 2009. The ratio of non-coverage by insurance versus advanced medical care remained fairly constant. There were more women than men who chose multifocal IOL. Those who chose multifocal IOL tended to be younger in age than monofocal IOL. Information about multifocal IOL was generally supplied at medical clinics.

Conclusion:Implantation of multifocal IOL was preferred by younger generation. Information over multifocal IOL was most frequently supplied at medical clinics.
