Abstract Purpose:To report the outcome of systemic adalimumab for refractory non-infectious uveitis.

Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 17 cases of refractory non-infectious uveitis who received systemic adalimumab by us in the past 8 months. The series comprised 4 males and 13 females. The age ranged from 15 to 73 years, average 40 years. There were 3 cases of sarcoidosis, 2 cases of Behçet disease, 2 cases of juvenile idiopathic arthritis, 2 cases of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease among others.

Results:The outcome was evaluated as very effective in 10 cases including all cases of Behçet disease, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and panuveitis. In all these 10 cases, ocular inflammation improved while tapering the daily dosis of prednisolone below 10 mg. Treatment was evaluated as fairly effective in 5 cases, including all cases of diffuse chorioretinitis. In the other 2 cases, treatment was non-effective, as it was not possible to taper the dosis of prednisolone due to side effects. Visual acuity improved or remained unchanged during treatment with adalimumab. As side effects, one case developed infusion reaction and 2 cases showed eosinophilia.

Conclusion:Systemic treatment with adalimumab was effective in most of the patients with non-infectious uveitis that was refractory to conventional treatments.
