Abstract Purpose:To report 3 cases of Pneumocystis pneumonia following systemic corticosteroid treatment for uveitis.

Cases:The 3 cases were a female and two males. They were aged 59, 76 and 78 years respectively. One had persistent scleritis and uveitis. Pneumocystis pneumonia developed following massive corticosteroid therapy. It healed after systemic sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim(ST). The second case had a history of corticosteroid diabetes. Pneumocystis pneumonia developed following systemic corticosteroid and cyclosporine and needed artificial ventilation. The third case had Hodgkin lymphoma complicated by persistent scleritis and uveitis. Pneumocystis pneumonia developed following pulsed corticosteroid treatment. The patient received ST therapy but passed away due to respiratory disorder.

Conclusion:These cases illustrate that Pneumocystis pneumonia may develop following massive systemic corticosteroid or during immunosuppressive therapy for ocular diseases including uveitis.
