Abstract. Purpose:To report infectious keratitis related to contact lens(CL)wear. Cases:This retrospective study was made on 23 eyes in 22 cases who needed hospitalization during 6 years through 2008. The series comprised 9 males and 13 females. The age ranged from 13 to 58 years, average 27 years. All but 2 cases were younger than 30 years. Results:Frequent replacement soft CL was used in 11 eyes, followed by oxygen-permeable CL in 4 eyes, conventional soft CL in 3 eyes, and planned replacement soft CL in 3 eyes among others. Eight strains of pathogenic organism were isolated in 7 eyes(30%),including Staphylococcus epidermidis 3 eyes,Pseudomonas aeruginosa 2 eyes, and Staphylococcus aureus,Propionibacterium sp.,Acanthamoeba in one eye each. The number of patients showed a gradual increase during the 6 years. Conclusion:CL-related corneal ulcer is increasing. Rate of detection of pathogenic organisms is low. Frequent-replacement soft CL was the most frequent cause of corneal ulcer.
