 In the present study, we developed and standardized a Japanese version of the Sensory Profile (SP-J), which is used internationally to assess sensory processing abilities. We examined its psychometric properties with data from a community sample (n=1,441;age, 3-82 years). The corrected item-total correlations for most items of the SP-J subscales were adequate. Except for a few subscales that were affected by a floor effect, most subscales had a sufficiently high Cronbach's α coefficient, which is an indicator of internal consistency. In order to examine whether the instrument could be extended over a wider range of ages than that assumed in its original version (3-10 years), we compared the corrected item-total correlations and α coefficients between 2 age groups:3-10 years and 11-82 years. We found that the SP-J had the same level of reliability for these 2 groups. We also obtained norms for 7 age groups. These findings enable assessments of sensory processing with the SP-J in subjects of all ages.
