We developed a revised version of the Nursery School Teacher Rating Developmental Scale for Children (NDSC-R), a measure of adaptive and maladaptive behaviors in children, with the aim of shortening the scale length, balancing scale constitution, and improving the reliability and validity of two of the subscales. We reviewed scale constitution in terms of correlation with external criteria and component structure, and reduced the number of items from 165 to 94. Cronbach's α was observed to be approximately .90 in subscales from which items were excluded, and above .70 in subscales for which new items were included. Correlations with external criteria(the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire and the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders Rating Scale)showed equal or higher values than with the original version, indicating criterion-related validity of the NDSC-R.
