Between August 2004 and October 2017, we reviewed 655 GI(lower gastrointestinal)tract endoscopies in 377 HIV(human immunodeficiency virus)-infected patients to elucidate lower GI lesions in patients with HIV infection. Histopathologically confirmed cases comprised 61 CMV(cytomegalovirus)enterocolitis(16%), 18 amebic colitis(5%), 9 intestinal spirochetosis(2%), 2 herpes simplex virus colitis(0.5%), Chlamydia trachomatis colitis(0.3%), 1 candida infection(0.3%), 1 syphilis of rectum(0.3%), 1 intestinal tuberculosis(0.3%), 1 giardiasis(0.3%), 1 cryptosporidiosis(0.3%), and 1 cyclosporiasis(0.3%). Endoscopic findings of CMV enterocolitis presented 84% of erosions or ulcerative lesions and 50% of punched-out ulcers. Besides, 28% of patients with CMV enterocolitis had other enterocolitic infections. Although amebic colitis occurred in 48% of mixed infections with CMV, 67% patients presented with ulcers with a diameter of >3cm. Between June 2012 and October 2017, we reviewed 392 lower GI tract endoscopies in 229 HIV-infected patients to elucidate HPV(human papillomavirus)-related lesions with HIV infection. Histopathologically confirmed HPV-related lesions cases were 91 patients and 239 lesions. In addition, 96 lesions(40%)of HPV-related lesions were of flat type, and 90 lesions(94%)exhibited dot or irregular distribution or network pattern as visualized by magnification endoscopy with narrowband imaging.
