  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

As we have come across 2 cases of acute diffuse erosive esophagitis with a chief complaint of hematemesis, we have endoscopically observed their courses by dye scattering method using Lugol's solution. According as inflammation goes down and repair of the injured epithelium is thoroughly under way, fine wrinkles appear and the epithelial surface becomes ready to be stained again. Application of dye scattering method over the esophageal epithelium thus made it possible for us to endoscopically observe, both morphologically and functionally, the course of changes of the esophageal epithelium.

Along with some comments on acute erosive esophagitis we have also touched upon the significance of applying dye scattering to erosions and ulcerative lesions of the esophagus.
