  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A Borrmann type Ⅱ tumor was found in a 58-year-old male, a company employe, on the greater curvature side of the pyloric antrum which had been normal when seen endoscopy three months before. During the one month before surgical correction the tumor showed rapid growth; indeed more rapid not only for an early cancer but also for an advanced cancer in its doubling time. At operation it was seen in the greater curvature side of the antrum. Mostly it was localized within the submucosa with partial protrusion up into the mucosa. Its base slightly invaded the muscular coat. Regional lymph node metastasis was also recogized. Histologically, it was primary reticulum-cell sarcoma of the stomach.

Unlike gastric carcinoma, reticulum-cell sarcoma of the stomach is stated to show often multiplicity of foci in the intragastric lymph follicles as well as in the regional lymph nodes, disseminating the whole body via blood or lymphatic vessels.

Clinico-pathological behavior of this variety of sarcoma together its rapid spread necessitates a quite different concept of treatment from that of gastric cancer.
