  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

In order to investigate “malignant ulcer cycle” retrospective studies based on roentgenograms and endoscopic pictures, have been made in the authors' laboratory on 13 out of 130 cases of early gastric cancer, observed for more than 3 months, in addition to 3 other cases showing unusual course.

It has been confirmed as a result that 41% of early gastric cancer tend to reduce in size as time goes by; while another 41% do not show any morphological changes, and the remaining 18% tend to aggravate irreversibly. By these facts information of great interest have been furnished as regards “malignant cycle” of gastric cancer. A very illustrative case is presented in this paper, as the title shows, of stomach ulcer scar having made, after the lapse of uneventful 2years, malignant transformation into advanced cancer of Borrmann Ⅱ type.

Follow-up of stomach ulcers, even after they have cicatrized, is therefore a must, and it is possible that gastric cancer, remaining in a stationary state for some time, may show sudden activity.
