  • Look Inside

During the 10 months March to December 1968 duodenal fiberscopy was conducted in 20 cases under general anesthesia in order to observe endoscopically the duodenum after the pars descendens has been entered by means of variuo types of fibergastroscope. Based on the comparative study of the results of their duodenal insertion, it has been found that FGS-S and and FGS-SL were more expedient to insertion into the pars descendens of the duodenum as compared with FGS-B and FGS-B and FGS-BL and the former two were most suitable for observation of the duodenal lumen. Biopsy attachment equipped in FGS-B however, is indispensable not only for suction of duodenal juice and biopsy of that region under direct view but also for cannulation through the papilla expected to be carried out in the future. For fundamental setup of duodenal fiberscope, as revealed by this study, it is essential that its tip must be formed as a side-view mirror, with the hard part of the tip between 3 or 4cm long. The whole length of the scope would be sufficient if it is from 100 to 110cm long. It also should have a diameter of 9mm with its pliability of the same degree as of FGS-S currently being used. Of necessity is also biopsy attachment as well as angle device at the tip.
