  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Among many cases of early stage cancer, we handled 9 cases in which the ulcer within the focus of cancer markedly diminished or totally disappeared.

Detailed description upon five out of these nine cases is given here, accompanied by X-ray and endoscope pictures.

Not only shallow ulcers but Types Ul-IV are included, indicating wide spread existence of this condition.

Basing upon this fact, we discussed the problem of ulcerous cancer and the therapeutic trial. When the co-existence of early stage cancer and ulcer was the case, we concluded that cancer has a strong tendency to produce ulcers.

We must note, however, that the existence of ulcers within the focus of cancer does not necessarily rule out the contention that ulcers tend to become cancerous.

As for the therapeutic trial, we notecl that temporary reduction or disappearance of ulcers is no proof of its benignancy, and we mentioned frequent occurrence of this fact especially in early stage cancers.

It is hard to reveal early cancer of Type Ⅱc in the surrounding areas when the ulcer is acute, while we found many Ⅱc's when the ulcer is reduced or cured. Basing upon this fact, we pointed out the necessity of observing the ulcer development more closely, and also the need to re-evaluate the therapeutic trial from a different point of view.
