  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A case of adenocarcinoma of the ascending colon showing an unusual growth pattern in a 50-year-old woman is presented. The tumor grew longitudinally extending from the terminal ileum to the proximal two-thirds of the ascending colon, measuring 15 cm in length and 6 cm in width. In spite of its large size, the tumor was confined within the wall. Two years postoperatively, the patient also developed another primary endometrial carcinoma. Another point of interest in this case is the family history showing clustering of gastrointestinal cancer in her brothers and sisters. Among five of the members including the present patient, three developed carcinoma of the gastrointestinal tract; her elder brother had multiple gastric carcinomas and metachronous multiple colonic carcinomas, and her sister died of carcinoma of the stomach.
