  • Look Inside

The incidence for benign tumors of the duodenum is of such a rare occurrence that only a few cases have been reported in our country. Recent years, according to the development of technical methods of the x-ray diagnosis and endoscopic examinations, such cases are gradually increased in papers.

The case here descrived was preoperatively diagnosed as leiomyoma of the duodenum by x-ray, endoscopy and angiography and was confirmed after histological examination.

The patient, a 50-year-old man, suffered from epigastric tenderness but he had had no gastrointestinal bleeding. Tumor was not palpable in the epigastrium. By x-ray examination of the upper digestive tract, translucent golbular subtraction defect was demonstrated in the ascending portion of duodenum. Endoscopic study showed no remarkable change in the surface of the tumor. Angiography was done by Seldinger's method. It teached us as a blood vessel rich tumor.

Because of the incidence of malignant change in leiomyoma is so high, the patient was under-gone partial resection of the duodenum and he discharged well 2 weeks after operation.

Pathologically, it was leiomyoma of the duodenum.
