  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The case presented here was diagnosed preoperatively as a Borrmann 2 type advanced gastric cancer. The gastrectomy was not performed due to cancerous serosal infiltration, especially into the pancreas, hepatoduodenal ligament and also small omentum. Histologic findings showed metastatic adenocarcinoma in two resected lymphnodes of the greater curvature at surgery.

The patient died of acute bronchopneumonia accompanying hepatic cirrhosis, 8 years and 4 months later after laparotomy.

The autopsy was performed. The histologic examination of the stomach revealed invasion of adeno carcinoma into the submucosal layer without ulceration, but the Ul-Ⅲ scar was proved.

Retrospective study showed spontaneous regression of stomach cancer for the reason of the disappearance of the preoperatively diagnosed advanced gastric cancer macroscopically, and existence of the tumor cells only in the superficial layer of the stomach wall and no metastasis microscopically without aggressive cancer chemotharapy.
